All the parents of 2 year olds through fifth graders receive this occasional email update.  If you’d like to be taken off the list, simply hit reply, and you won’t find them in your inbox again.

Family Idea:

Kathleen Deveny wrote in Newsweek about talking to her daughter about God.  “My daughter’s questions still have me stumped.  Very often when we’re talking to children about faith the problem is us, not them, say the Rev. J. Brian Bansfield of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.  We live in a secular world and we try to reduce mysteries to simple facts.  Children can experience a mystery’, he says…‘Whenever the child asks the adult something, the child is inviting the adult in,’ says Father Bransfield.”  Deveny continues, “I am going to try to accept the invitation.”

I’d invite you to do the same with your children!

Monthly Mission Project:

Our April mission project is to “give a flower to a friend”.  With all our cold weather, hopefully we’ll have flowers soon!  But a flower created by your child would work as well.

Does everyone have their flower sheet that lists our monthly mission projects?  Each month, the children are supposed to color in a petal on their flower when they complete the project.  On May 18th, we’ll be recognizing the children who colored all their petals during worship with a special present.

Upcoming Events:

Up with Puppets will be sharing their last show of the school year on April 13 at 9:55am.  Children should meet in the Fellowship Hall, not the Sanctuary.  Puppets will be in place of our normal music time, but the rest of Sunday School will happen as usual.

Family Mission Trip- April 19-20.  Spend the weekend working on the grounds and enjoying fellowship, worship, and relaxation.  A group of people will be headed to Camp Wesley Woods at 7:30 Saturday morning.  They’ll work all day and spend the night at camp.  They’ll be back by noon on Sunday.  Cost is just the cost of food (bring your own sack lunch for Saturday).  They have projects for people of ALL ages, so plan to attend!  For more information or to sign up, call Ken Van Pelt at 232-4018 or Steve Simpson at 296-2322).

Wednesday Night Potluck- for the last regular Wednesday evening, FUMC is a having a potluck.  The church will provide a main dish, tableware, and beverages.  Everyone else should bring a salad, side dish, or dessert.  Dinner will start at 6:00 on April 30th.  It’s a great way to check out the Wednesday programs for next year.

Our VBS Kick-off will be May 18th.  Plan to wear any VBS t-shirts you might have from previous years to church that morning.

Opportunities for Parents:

Sunday, April 20th, a new Adult Forum begins at 9:30 in the Fireside Room.  There will be coffee and doughnuts there, so just show up!  Jacque Norman from Ready Ames, a one-woman organization that helps people prepare for emergency, whether from flood, snowstorm, tornado, or the like.

The Red Hot Mamas are about to begin a new study, so now would be a great time to join the group of mothers of young children who meet Friday mornings at 9:30.  Contact Suann Evans (MREvans44@aol.com) for more information.

Whose picture is on the Screen in the coming weeks?

The second graders will be on the screens through April 27th.  The pre-kindergarten class is next.

Other Thoughts:

We’re still missing two pagers from the nursery.  They’ve been missing for a few months.  If your child has been in the nursery anytime over the past few months, would you please look through your coat pockets and extra purses to see if you have one?  Just leave it in the pager charger when you find it.  Thanks!

We have lots of craft projects that need to be taken home.  They are on the little table in the upstairs education hallway.  Please pick up the ones that belong to your child.  Whether or not they make it home is up to you.

We have lots of camp books at the church if you don’t already have one.  Don’t forget the church helps pay for camp, so just fill out the registration form and bring it to the office.
